How often should students take standardized tests?

A study by the Center for American Progress found that students are tested an average of once a month, but some are tested as frequently as twice a month, and some states and districts have a culture that emphasizes testing over learning. How much time should be devoted to test prep, practice tests, and the like versus other classroom activities?

Should middle and high schools start no earlier than 8:30 a.m.?

The American Academy of Pediatrics has joined others in recommending an 8:30 or later start time to help teenagers get more sleep. Currently, some 40 percent of high schools begin before 8 a.m. How does your child handle early mornings? Would changing the schedule be pandering to students?
