Mike Ness of legendary Fullerton punk band Social Distortion has appeared in a new video for automotive apparel company Red Kap, talking about songwriting, boxing, his appreciation for classic cars, and his Northern California ranch. The video premiered over at KROQ, a CBS Radio station.

Ness bares it all: the video offers a look into Social Distortion’s private studio, his vehicle collection, and the diet and training routine he uses to stay in shape for boxing.

“One of my passions is boxing,” he said. “It’s traditional, it’s very American. I love training, I love going to fights, I love classic fights on television. And you just learn, ‘Wow, he just won that fight with a left hook. It’s like poetry, it’s elegant. It’s beautiful.

“Kind of like being on stage, you just kind of get in this zone where it’s like the rest of the world has just been shut off.”

He also added a little bit about his love for cars: “I just enjoy taking a car and making it beautiful again. The whole attitude of the car just changes. Now I’ve made it my car. With my music, I do the same thing: I draw from all these influences, take what someone else has done and put your own twist on it.”

Ness performs lead vocals and lead guitar in Social Distortion. The band last released an album, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, in 2011, marking their first top 10 album on the Billboard 200. An eighth studio album has been in the works, though nothing has been confirmed.
