Redskins PR guy dragged McCoy from interview to hear Gruden's speech
There was an odd scene on the field Monday night in the moments following the Redskins' upset victory over the Cowboys. After a brief interview with ESPN, third-string Redskins quarterback Colt McCoy, who threw for 299 yards in the win, was about to speak with ESPN Deportes ... until Redskins Senior VP of Communications Tony Wyllie intervened and dragged McCoy away while yelling at ESPN Deportes reporter John Sutcliffe, "NO MEANS NO."
So why the Secret Service-like protection to get McCoy back to the locker room?
"We wanted to get Colt in to hear coach's postgame speech," Wyllie told TMZ. "I wasn't denying access. I wanted Colt to hear coach talk. I felt we needed to get him inside."
Wyllie added: "Right after the speech, Colt went out and did the interview. I explained the situation to them. They were happy in the end."
And then ESPN Deportes got its interview.
Turns out, Spanish-speaking reporters are just as boring in their post-game interviews as their English-speaking counterparts. The highlight of the exchange had to be this:
Sutcliffe: “La Pistola McCoy, that's how they used to call you, huh?”
McCoy: “That's what they used to call me in Austin. Hook ‘em”.
We'd rather watch Wyllie freaking out on unsuspecting media folks.
