Session Descriptions

Code Enforcement/Environmental Health Regulations and Discussion
Speaker: Matt Woods and Christa Crowe, Town of Flower Mound Environmental Services
The primary objectives of Code Enforcement and Environmental Health are to provide quality services to the community for the protection and promotion of the health, safety, welfare, property values and environment within the Town. Town staff will discuss the current property standards regulations, how to report any concerns, environmental health-related topics, and methods to address some challenging issues.

Neighborhood Safety/Crime Reduction Tips
Speaker: Justin Buck, Flower Mound Police Crime Prevention Officer
The Flower Mound Crime Prevention Unit will present an overview of the Police Department’s crime prevention programs, social media outlets, and reporting software that is available to the public. Officer Buck will also address current crime trends and prevention methods.

Xeriscaping/Drought-Tolerant Landscaping
Speaker: Ed Smoula, the Brickman Group
Xeriscaping (frequently incorrectly labeled or referenced as “zero-scaping”) is gardening that greatly reduces or even eliminates the need for supplemental watering via irrigation and has gained tremendous popularity in the past few years due to increasing limitations on outdoor watering. Xeriscaping emphasizes selection of plants for water conservation, but is much more than planting cactus and installing rocks, it involves several concepts.

Association Legislation – What All Boards Need to Know
Speaker: Judd A. Austin, Jr. with Henry, Oddo, Austin & Fletcher and Associates
The 2011 and 2013 Texas Legislative Sessions brought sweeping changes to laws affecting community associations. As a board member, there are many “Do’s and Don’t’s” about how to function together for the benefit of your members. Attend this session for an overview of key facts of which all board members should be aware.
