My Piece of America

We all have our own special places outdoors, where we go to relax, exercise, decompress, unplug, and be awed and inspired by nature. Whether you're a hiker, a photographer, a mountain-biker or cross-country skier, a bird-watcher, a hunter/angler, or if you just like to drive to our public lands and be inspired by the magnificence of the scenery, America's public lands offer every outdoor experience under the sun (or the moon).

You can help protect these special places and showcase their beauty to people across the nation by uploading a photo and description of your favorite piece of America. Check out My Piece of America to see hundreds of your fellow Americans' special places and learn how you can get involved in the Sierra Club's efforts to protect America's wild legacy.

Write a letter to protect the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is one of America's most iconic wild places. But it's not just the canyon itself that is spectacular -- the surrounding area is home to stunning desert scenery, old-growth pine forests, and animals found nowhere else on earth. Unfortunately, the Greater Grand Canyon is threatened by corporations that want to mine for uranium and log the area's ancient forests.

The good news is that President Obama can permanently protect these wild lands by naming them as a national monument. But he needs to know that Americans from sea to shining sea want to see the Greater Grand Canyon area protected -- and a great way to show your support is by writing a letter-to-the-editor of your local newspaper. Sign up now to write your letter.
