IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) – The Dallas Cowboys started with offense by drafting OL Zack Martin in the first round, but drafted seven defensive players in the last six rounds of the draft.

Round 1, No. 16 — Zack Martin (OT) Notre Dame
Martin was a tackle with the Fighting Irish, but will likely start his career in Dallas at guard. A two-time captain at Notre Dame, Martin started 52 career games — the most in school history.

Round 2, No. 2 — Demarcus Lawrence (OLB) Boise St
Dallas surrendered their 3rd round pick to move up and select Lawrence, a 6-3, 251-pounder who recorded 20 sacks and 34 tackles for losses in his college career.

Round 4, No. 19 — Anthony Hitchens (OLB) Iowa
Hitchens was the Hawkeyes’ leading tackler and defensive MVP in 2013, starting all 13 games at Will LB.

Round 5, No. 6 — Devin Street (WR) Pittsburgh
Street is a 6-3, 198 pound WR and Pittsburgh’s all-time leading pass catcher. Should be an excellent red zone target in Dallas.

Round 7, No. 16 — Ben Gardner (DE) Stanford
The 6-4, 262 pounder was a team captain at Standford. Selected as an All-Pac 12 first team member in 2013, after finishing with 7.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.

Round 7, No. 23 — Will Smith (ILB) Texas Tech
The Holiday Bowl’s Defensive MVP was first team AP All-Big 12 in 2013, finishing with 120 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks.

The All-American safety and three-year starter collected 288 career tackles, 12 breakups and four interceptions at Baylor.
