Natural gas pipeline operator Crestwood Midstream Partners LP is planning a brand-new line to ship gas from Sullivan County to Luzerne County.

The 30-mile line, named MARC II, would connect Crestwood’s MARC I pipeline to Williams Co. Inc.’s Transco line and the proposed PennEast pipeline at a point near Dallas, according to Crestwood’s map.

Crestwood stated in an Oct. 21 news release the project would further connect Pennsylvania gas to customers in the Mid-Atlantic and New England.

On Oct. 15, Crestwood concluded a two-week open season that drew non-binding bids from gas companies interested in shipping a combined 700 million cubic feet of gas. A binding open season will follow in early November.

The partnership intends to file an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission by spring of 2015 and have the project finished by the end of 2017.

MARC II is at least the fifth new natural-gas pipeline project in Northeast Pennsylvania currently in some phase of planning. Others are:

• Williams’ Atlantic Sunrise.

Constitution Pipeline, a joint venture among Williams, Cabot Oil & Gas Corp., Piedmont Natural Gas Co. and WGL Holdings.

• Kinder Morgan’s Northeast Energy Direct Project.

PennEast Pipeline, a joint venture among AGL Resources, New Jersey Resources, Public Service Enterprise Group, South Jersey Industries and UGI Energy Services.

The list doesn’t include projects that would add parallel “loops” to existing transmission pipelines to increase capacity, such as Williams’ Leidy Southeast and Diamond East upgrade projects.
