Houston Baptist vs Mean Green Soccer

Check out this section for several observations in blog form, the day after the big game(s). This new feature, titled the Press Box, will contain analysis and opinionated remarks from an NT Daily sports writer.

  • In the home opener for the Mean Green soccer team, the stands were over half full but still had plenty of extra space – somewhat disappointing for a team that has won back-to-back conference championships.
  • No one can say goalies aren’t tough – HBU’s goalkeeper Patty Walrath was inadvertently kicked in the face by a Mean Green player and stayed in the game anyways.
  • The freshmen forwards are already making an impact. Rachel Holden’s four goal weekend stole the show, but forward Anna Flobeck also looked impressive. Of her four shots, one missed by mere inches, bouncing off the right goalpost.
  • One of UNT’s best scoring chances came after a DBU player trying to clear the ball hit the referee and bounced back. The Mean Green had numbers but couldn’t take advantage.
  • The team is sporting new uniforms for the 2012-13 season, vertically-striped green and white jerseys produced by Nike.
