A 60-year-old man was killed from blunt force trauma on an EnCana well in WY. UPDATE: 3 workers were injured.
In North Dakota one man was killed during a blowout that sprayed 400 barrels of oil and 400 barrels of waste water. The 39-year-old man was on foot when a vehicle evacuating struck him.
I’ve said this before: There is a reason jobs in this industry pay so well and that’s to buy loyalty and your silence. It’s not worth it. We need jobs created by a clean energy economy.

The ND accident was from being run over by a truck. I agree jobs created by a “clean energy economy” would be great. Do you know of any?
I wonder why that is Nick. Could it be all the millions the fracking industry pumps into our Congress?
Let’s make it a level playing field and let the free market work.
1. Slash all the subsidies to the fracking industry to the same levels clean energy has.
2. Remove ALL the MANY loopholes the fracking industry enjoys so that you have to follow the same rules other industries have.
3. Let’s make it as easy to get a permit for solar panels and windmills as it is to permit a gas well.
Town of Bartonville you can apply for a gas well on line.
Your solar panels on the other hand, can’t be visible from the street.
It’s a dangerous job. Those ALWAYS pay more.
The free market is working that’s why there aren’t as many jobs in alternate energy generation..it’s not profitable YET.
It’s easy to use the word loophole..can you actually explain one of them? Not just the catch phrase names of the evil deeds but, actually explain what one of them is & why it’s considered a loophole?
Not sure of the problems you are having with solar panels or windmills..we have them everywhere up here.
It is dishonest to use the free market catch phrase when your industry benefits from 1, 2 & 3 above. The solar and wind industries receive only a fraction of the “incentives” and have much greater permitting requirements. Level the playing field and then talk to me about the free market.

4. Let’s start using the TRUE COSTS of fracking-derived fossil fuels (and all fossil fuels for that matter).
If the true costs were factored into the price, such as cancer from chemical exposures, air pollution, ruined water, ruined land, ruined rivers, ruined ecosystems, oil spills, etc, and of course the big one, climate change, then renewable energy would be MUCH cheaper than fossil fuels! But those other costs have always been ‘externalized’ onto the public while the robber barons keep the dirty profits.
If we were looking at the true costs of fossil fuel power, then the ‘free market’ could choose cheaper renewable power for the usual greed-based reasons, and incidentally we’d have sustainable, clean, renewable power and possibly a future on this planet. Everybody wins!
Except Big Oil and Gas… the Koch Brothers… Big Coal… Exxon… bought-off politicians… But that’s the rub, isn’t it? We are only up against the most profitable enterprise the world has ever known

If we stopped working in the oil field over half of the things you use today would be gone like the computer you are using. It’s not a safe job but we do it anyways because we have to. If the oil industry was shut down or even capped on how Mich it can do in a year lots of things would vanish from every day life. We need oil and gas. Everyone that works in the oil and gas biz. We do training every year to know the dangers, and most accidents with this line of work is from people on site being careless.
We don’t need all the oil and gas that is being produced currently, which is why there is a big push to export it to Asia. Everyday we are developing alternatives. All my electricity comes from 100% wind energy so my computer use is not contributing to sacrifice zones.
