It makes no sense, at this point, to allow fracking to encroach into new areas. There are too many problems and we already have a gas glut.

Great article! Mr. Northrup’s discussion of well casing is well worth a listen, too. He’s smart and funny. We definitely need a sense of humor with all of this. We scare ourselves too much as it is. Thank you, Chip Northrup.
Frackin’ Carnies! Anyone who’s been paying attention could see that Industry funding Corbett’s campaign was a purchase of a Governor who would be in their debt. Corbett gets to be governor, Industry gets to run over people.
Northrup is especially accurate about the rigs and the crews. How many times have we had a Matt Pitzrella running his mouth about ‘job creation’ and at the same time, every white pick up in these northeastern towns has a Texas or Louisiana plate? The crews go where the job is, and those jobs are moving targets. How many towns are struggling with ‘man camps’? How many of these towns are building hotels because they’ve run out of rooms, and there are no homes or apartments left to rent because the crews are filling them up?
So maybe it’s fair to say the operator ‘created’ a job, but more accurately they ‘supported’ one at best. I think it’s a reach to say that jobs are being ‘created’ if the person who has the job is living in a hotel or other rented space. That’s called a temporary job, and the only cash left in that town is whatever the rig crew leaves behind.
And the carnival moves to the next town and the cycle of destruction starts over.
The oilies screwed up & drilled too many horizontal gas wells. It was initially believed that gas was the only thing that would flow from the rock they are targeting.
Cutting back on new natural gas drilling will allow everyone time to see what happens to the “supply” we have “developed”. We MAY find it declines faster than we think & this will help raise natural gas prices out of the discount bin, bringing the industry back to firing on all cylinders again. So, once you handle all the drilling obligations the mineral owners require of the operators, we got a deal!
Yes, I will be at the Birchfield Penny center tomorrow to welcome CHIP. Been looking forward to meeting him. Have been fighting this debate for the past 2 years now in WNY. We have too many GOP in charge in this part of New York and they want to make the Buffalo and Niagara Falls area sacrificial zones for their waste water. I live above the Marcellus and Utica shales and the Marcellus is so close to the surface, you can literally light it in a park close by (under a waterfall). The NYSGEIS claims they frack as shallow as 2000 feet. Which is only an 800 ft buffer difference between us and Wyoming. They are also drilling horizontally for an underground storage near the public watershed. The glutonny of gas from PA has nowhere to go.
Grisanti made a comment last week in a public forum that he was touring a PRIVATE waste water treatment plant in PA and was going to build one here. Again, make us the toilet. Sick.
