A marathon event

and presentation

A presentation to Geisinger Heart and Vascular Institute at Geisinger Community Medical Center highlighted a 2014 Scranton Half-Marathon celebration at Ale Mary’s in Scranton.

Honored for its role as Presenting Sponsor of the half marathon, Geisinger was represented at the event by staff, and its own half marathon participants. Chris Doherty , who led the Scranton Half Marathon Race Committee, presented the award.

Among the sold-out crowd who had trained to run and walk the 13.1 miles ahead of them were more than 30 employees of Geisinger Health System.

Team Geisinger physicians who laced up their sneakers and joined in included surgeon Timothy Farrell, M.D.; primary care physician Michael Kondash, D.O.; neurosurgeon Leslie Lyness, D.O.; cardiothoracic surgeon Russell Stahl, M.D.; and cardiologist Stephen Voyce, M.D.

Geisinger CMC worked closely with the Scranton Half Marathon Race Committee members including Chris in the months leading up to the half marathon to promote the event and encourage the community to “Be in Good Health.” The Heart and Vascular Institute at Geisinger CMC will once-again be the Presenting Sponsor of the 2015 Scranton Half Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, April 12.

Among the race participants and planners were: Kathy Arzie, Westyn Hinchey, Robert Joyce, Noelle Snyder, Wendy Wilson, Roberta Wywiorski and Holly Zinskie .

A Moore event

The Wilson F. Moore chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will highlight the life and times of its namesake when it conducts its 30th anniversary banquet on June 6, 2015 at the Montrose VFW.

Planners hope former members and officers will attend, Bob Wagner, a committee and board member said in an email, adding that he “has already found out ... that there are several persons who won shotguns at the first banquet (1985) that are still using them to hunt turkeys with” and invited them to come to the banquet and show the guns to help honor the memory of Mr. Moore.

“They were very enthusiastic about the prospect of doing so,” Bob added.

Bob said he and the other planners including president Jack Sorber, vice president Al “Ace” Cuevas, secretary Michelle Cuevas, Tammy Bonnice, Tom Norville, John Stone and Dave Wilcox , and chapter members also plan to hold a separate raffle for a gun with a special plate attached that says “Wilson F. Moore Chapter NWTF 30th anniversary.”
