DUPONT — An early-morning broken water main Tuesday left approximately 50 businesses and homes without water in Dupont.

Pennsylvania American Water officials said they received calls about the break around 2:30 and crews began working around 7:30.

The break occurred under the railroad tracks on Main Street.

Determining what caused the break will be difficult, said Frank Gates, supervisor of field services for Pennsylvania American Water. He said age, ground movement and weather could have been factors.

The Pittston Area Primary Center released its younger students, kindergarten through first grade, at 11 a.m. because the school was without water.
