A Whitehall man seriously injured in a crash with two tractor trailers has reached a $3.8 million settlement of a civil lawsuit filed against the truck drivers and their employers, according to his attorney.

Kyle Kelly, 27, filed suit in 2010 against Isabel Lopez and Proud 2 Haul Inc. of Kearny, N.J., and John Bonyea and his employer, Leonard’s Transportation Inc., of Farmington, N.Y., in connection with a July 2010 crash on Interstate 380 in Coolbaugh Twp.

Mr. Kelly was traveling southbound on the interstate when a northbound tractor trailer owned by Proud 2 Haul Inc. crossed the center median and struck Mr. Kelly’s 1998 Jeep Wrangler, according to a press release issued by attorney Marion Munley of Munley Law, Scranton. Mr. Kelly’s vehicle, which was disabled in the southbound lane, was then struck by a tractor trailer driven by Mr. Bonyea.

Mr. Kelly suffered multiple injuries, including numerous fractures and a traumatic brain injury. The case was set to go to trial in Lackawanna County Court, but a settlement was reached Friday with the two trucking firms, Ms. Munley said.

“While no amount of compensation can reverse the effects of this kind of trauma, the settlement reached by our firm will help alleviate his financial burdens and medical costs,” Ms. Munley said in the press release.
