Directors offer behind-the-scenes narration on their films.
“Birth of a Nation” is re-imagined as “Rebirth of a Nation” in this sequence from Justin Simien’s film “Dear White People,” now in theaters. In his review, A. O. Scott called the film “knowing but not snarky, self-aware but not solipsistic, open to influence and confident in its own originality.” And in this video, Mr. Simien narrates a moment from the film where his character Samantha White (played by Tessa Thompson) shows her confrontational student film.
