Star Trek actor George Takei, who’s been called the most influential person on Facebook, will speak at the University of North Texas on Monday night, and tickets are still available.

Takei is best known for playing Hikaru Sulu in Star Trek, and has become a social justice activist for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights. He’s gained Internet fame on Facebook, where he has more than 8 million likes and Mashable named him the most influential person on the social network in 2012.

He will speak at 8 p.m. at the UNT Coliseum, 600 Ave. D, with doors opening at 7 p.m. Members of the university community can also view a live stream of his lecture online with their UNT login information.

Takei’s lecture is part of the Distinguished Lecture Series, which brings high-profile speakers to the university. The first speaker this school year was Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in August.

The speakers are chosen by a committee of students, faculty and staff each year based on suggestions from the UNT community.

Tickets can still be purchased online today before the event. Student tickets are free, and student guest tickets are available for $5. Faculty, staff and alumni tickets cost $10 and general admission is $15. All ticket prices will remain the same at the door and will be available for purchase at all entrances to the Coliseum.

Parking at the Fouts Field lot will be free for attendees, but officials warn the lot could fill up with regular university traffic. Additional parking will be available at the Union Circle Garage and Highland Street Garage.
