Blotter: Man’s vehicle stopped in traffic on University Drive

A vehicle stopped in the middle of a busy roadway led to the arrest of a 39-year-old intoxicated man, according to a police report.

The incident occurred about 8 p.m. Saturday in the 4400 block of East University Drive when an off-duty police officer advised another officer via radio that a man’s vehicle was stopped in a lane of traffic.

An officer arrived on scene, realized the suspect was intoxicated and conducted an intoxication investigation, finding an open beer can in the cup holder next to the driver’s seat and a prescription bottle of pills that belonged to someone who wasn’t in the vehicle, according to the report.

The officer also reported finding hypodermic needles, empty small plastic bags and a plastic bag filled with what the officer suspected were illegal narcotics.

The suspect was taken to city jail on charges of driving while intoxicated with an open container, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

1800 block of West Oak Street — A 31-year-old man unlawfully entered a residence Friday evening and fell asleep on a couch that didn’t belong to him, according to a police report.

The next morning, the owner of the residence, and of the couch, called police before confronting the suspect, who attempted to flee upon waking and realizing an officer was en route.

A struggle ensued, according to the report, but the unlawful sleeper escaped before the police could apprehend him.

He was last seen running northbound on Marietta Street.

3400 block of Joyce Lane — A 19-year-old man was arrested Saturday evening on marijuana charges after someone called police and reported a strange but familiar smell coming through an open window, according to a police report.

The incident occurred at 8:30 p.m. and ended soon after when officers arrived on scene and located the suspect, who was indeed smoking marijuana somewhere outside the caller’s window, according to the report.

The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana under 2 ounces and possession of drug paraphernalia and was taken to jail.
