A symposium designed to empower and support women in Denton County will be conducted at the Denton Holiday Inn and Suites on Saturday.

This will be the 16th time the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Denton County Alumnae Chapter partners with the Southeast Denton Neighborhood Association to put on the event. It is designed to help women, and this year’s theme is “All Aboard! Destination ... Success!”

“It’s a one-day event and it is a special day to socialize and network with women of different backgrounds,” said Katrina Haley, the president of the Denton County Alumnae Chapter. “It’s about empowering women, entrepreneurship, focusing on your faith and being informed.”

There will be two speakers at the event and vendors will offer various products and services. The event will also raise money for the Malaria No More Project, which provides net coverings for African residents to prevent mosquito bites.

Joyce Rodgers, the founder and CEO of Primary Purpose Ministry, will host the first session, speaking on “Fountain of Faith Plaza.” Laura Finney, CEO of the administrative training company We Can Do That, will then present two sessions: “Next Stop: Entrepreneurship 3.0” and “The Final Destination: The Direct Path to Igniting Personal Power.”

There will be several vendors selling clothes, makeup, financial planning services and other services for attendees.

“We support women in the community who are entrepreneurs, so there’s plenty of downtime to visit all of the vendor tables,” Haley said.

Registration for the event will begin at 8:30 a.m., and there will be 50 free tickets available for Southeast Denton residents on a first-come, first-served basis. Regular tickets cost $35 each and include lunch, and can be reserved in advance through Cleo Birckbichler by emailing her at cxbirckb@hotmail.com.
