Vote no on fracking ban

The entire energy world is looking at Denton as the Nov. 4 election contains a proposed ban on the highly effective technique of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) within the city’s boundaries.

Such government over-reach within Texas would send shock waves throughout the entire country and probably lead to massive lawsuits against the city, according to testimony from former Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Tom Phillips, who believes such a ban would be unconstitutional.

Also, there are dozens, if not hundreds, of mineral rights property owners who would then be prohibited from harvesting the minerals they own, should this ban pass, since without fracking, virtually no new wells would be drilled.

Many don’t understand the industry’s processes, so they fall for misinformation that is put out by opponents of fracking.

For instance, some claim that fracking predominantly injects chemicals into the ground, when actually, 99.5 percent of the fracturing liquid is water And in some cases, that water is even recycled to be used in additional well sites.

It’s important to understand this industry, which provides jobs to about 334,000 Texans, according to the Texas Workforce Commission, and which pays more than $3 billion in property taxes.

There is much good, clear, factual information in a booklet that can be viewed online at http://www.oilandnaturalgasintexas.com/flipbook/#/10.

I urge each person to really look at the facts from reputable sources, not be swayed emotionally by scary stories with no real basis in reality. Please support responsible regulations and vote no on the fracking ban.

Dianne Edmondson,

Denton
