FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) – U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky says he and Texas counterpart Ted Cruz will be “friendly competitors” should both run for president in 2016.
Each is addressing the Texas Republican Convention in Fort Worth — and both are possible White House contenders.
Paul told The Associated Press on Friday he’s not made up his mind about running. But he noted that he’s traveling the country frequently, keeping his options open.
Paul says that since he’s undecided, he hasn’t spoken to Cruz about both possibly running.
A native Texan, Paul’s father Ron was a longtime Texas congressman and frequent presidential candidate.
Cruz and Paul are both tea party favorites and could compete for the support of the same conservative activists. But Paul said only that “we’ll both be competing for Republicans.”
