In this week's edition, the human resource directors behind some of Birmingham's perennial Best Places to Work contenders will share some of their secrets to building and maintaining a strong workplace culture in our Top HR Innovators section.

For many companies, those efforts start during the hiring process. So we asked the Top HR Innovators to share their go-to job interview questions.

Below our some of our favorite responses. If you'd like to network with some of these talented HR executives - or get continuing education credits - come to tomorrow's Top HR Innovators event. It will feature a continuing education session on executive coaching, as well as a ceremony in which our innovators will share some of their best practices. Click here for more info on the event or register tomorrow at the door. The continuing education portion kicks off at 9 a.m. at the Harbert Center.

I don't have a single question -- my goal in an interview is to determine how well the candidate will succeed in our company's culture. - Scott Adams, Protective Life Corporation

How would you describe your work ethic? - Joyce Ammons, AuctionAccess

In understanding your strengths and the areas you could improve upon, if selected for our position, what could we consistently count on your to contribute every day? - Melody Banks, Maynard Cooper & Gale PC

What is the biggest misperception people have about you? - Dawn Burke, Daxko

"Tell me more"... and let them talk. - Kelly Cochran, Warren Averett LLC

What energizes you and makes you want to spend more time on that subject? - Tom Garrett, Brasfield & Gorrie LLC

I really don't have one. I have always been a pretty good judge of character so my main focus in an initial interview is to determine not only if they are qualified but whether they would be a good fit for our company. - Beverly Griffith, ExpoDisplays
