5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday— TWU’s Boo at the U, a free community event at the Student Union, at Bell Avenue and Administrative Drive. Event includes train and carriage rides, carnival games, inflatable games, a haunted house and trunk-or-treating. Bring one canned food item per person to help support the TWU Food Pantry. 10 a.m. Saturday— Spooky Story Time at South Branch Library, 3228 Teasley Lane. Best for ages 1-5. Children can wear costumes to hear not-too-scary stories, then go on a Halloween trick-or-treating parade. Free. Call 940-349-8752.

10 a.m. to noon Saturday — Halloween Carnival at Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 1300 Wilson St. Free family event includes games, goody bags, face painting, a bounce house and more. Costume contest starts at 10:30 a.m. Visit www.dentonparks.com .

11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday — Denton’s Day of the Dead Festival includes a street fair, carnival games and crafts for kids in the pumpkin patch on Industrial Street, coffin races down Oak Street, music all day and the Twilight Lantern Light parade through downtown. 4:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday — “Cirque du Horror,” a homegrown Halloween musical, at Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial St. Tickets cost $15 for adults, $7 for seniors 65 and older and children, free for children younger than 3. Visit www.cirqueduhorror.com .

6 to 9 p.m. Saturday — Zombie Haunted House at Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 1300 Wilson St. For teens and adults; not appropriate for young children or those disturbed by macabre images. Fridays through Sundays, through Oct. 31 — The Dark Path Haunt, an actor-based outdoor haunted attraction for adults and courageous kids. Choose your path through the Old Alton Woods, near 2695 Old Alton Road, across from the legendary Goatman’s Bridge, with one lamp per group. Admission is $20. $5 discount for emergency responder personnel and military, plus one guest. Open 8 to 11:55 p.m. Oct. 24-25 and Oct. 30-31; and 8 to 10 p.m. Oct. 26. Noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays through Nov. 1 — Old Alton Halloween is a walk through the woods, a candy hunt with face painting, pumpkin patch and photo ops at 2695 Old Alton Road. IN THE REGION

3 to 6 p.m. Saturday — “HOWL-oween” at The Shops at Highland Village, at FM2499 and FM407, benefiting the Humane Society of Flower Mound. Participating retailers will have candy and balloons for children 12 and younger in costume for trick-or-treating. Event also includes carnival games for toddlers and children, an enchanted giant maze and magical hayrides. Free.
