North Branch Library is the place to be for creative types Friday night and Saturday.
The branch will host the Better Denton Hackathon and 24-Hour Comics Day, both of which start at 5 p.m. on Friday and end on 5 p.m. Saturday. Together, the events make up the Denton Public Library’s “Up All Night” event.
The Better Denton Hackathon is for anyone with an idea — be it technological, commercial or cultural — to either team up with others to develop their creation or work on it individually through the night. Teams will demonstrate their concepts at 3 p.m. Saturday. Judges will determine the winning idea, and the group or developer behind it will win a trophy.
The comics event is part of the International 24 Hour Comics Day, which invites teams and individuals to produce a 24-page comic in 24 hours.
Both Hackathon and comics creators have to bring their own materials — art supplies, hand tools, laptop computers and personal hygiene items. The library will provide coffee, water and some snacks, but participants can bring their own “survival” snacks. “Up All Night” will be a lock-in event between 11 p.m. and 9 a.m., according to a library announcement.
The library is located at 3020 N. Locust St. For more information, call librarian Juli Gonzalez at 940-349-8741 or email her at juli.gonzalez@cityofdenton.com.
