Virgin America started flying four non-stops from Dallas Love Field to New York's LaGuardia Airport Tuesday, a continuation of the airline's post Wright Amendment expansion.
The airline is offering special fares for the new route starting at $89 on its website, not counting taxes and fees.
Virgin started flying out of Love Field on Oct. 13, the same day that flight restrictions known as the Wright Amendment were lifted at the airport. Both Southwest Airlines, which has 16 gates at Love Field, and Virgin America, which occupies two, started offering nonstop flights to new destinations.
Virgin America started with three daily nonstop flights to Love Field to Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington D.C., Los Angeles International Airport and San Francisco International Airport on Oct. 13.
"We have had a great response to our fares so far, demonstrating that travelers were ready for more fare and product competition at LaGuardia, particularly on this key business route to Dallas Love Field," said John MacLeod, senior vice president of planning and sales for Virgin America.
This is the first time Virgin America has offered service at LaGuardia. Virgin has been flying nonstop routes from its Los Angeles and its hub in San Francisco to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport.
"We are excited to expand our footprint in New York even further with the addition of LaGuardia, becoming only the second low-cost carrier to serve all three major airports in the metropolitan area," Macleod said.
The flights from Love Field to LaGuardia depart at 7 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 1:25 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. The return flights leave at 7 a.m., 11:55 a.m., 3:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
