Unemployment rates in the City of Denton began to decrease again, with a 4.4 percent unemployment rate in August. Last August, the rate was 5.2 percent.
The county did not see a decrease in the unemployment rate, remaining at 5.0 percent, the same as in July.
Comparatively, the unemployment rate in the state for August was 5.5 percent, down from 5.6 percent in July. The national unemployment rate also decreased from 6.5 percent in July to 6.3 percent in August.
Car sales improving
So far this year in Denton County, 19,852 new cars have been sold, up about 600 from this point last year, according to the Freeman Metroplex recap.
This month, dealerships sold 2,376 in August, down from 2,917 in July.
Compared to last August, sales are also down by about 500 vehicles.
The largest chunk of last month’s sales were from domestic trucks, with Ford dominating the category.
Of the 851 domestic trucks sold, 267 were Fords. In the county, there were 763 domestic cars sold, 345 foreign cars and 417 foreign trucks.
Robson Ranch open house today
The active adult community Robson Ranch will hold an open house today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
At the open house, people can take tours of the model homes and see other community amenities like the clubhouse and tennis courts.
At the same time, the Robson Ranch Kiwanis Club will have tastings from their new cookbook, like beer dip and coconut-lime chicken. It will also feature live music.
The neighborhood is located at 9501 Ed Robson Blvd. in Denton.
