Inspired by Nature.

The DUC Boathouse draws its inspiration from the natural surroundings of the lake. The boathouse will emulate the natural surrounding with warm wood tone cladding, reflective qualities of glass, and even the wing design of the butterfly roof.

Working with nationally-renowned architectural firm Page/, we are committed to preserving the surrounding environment and incorporating sustainable architectural practices. We are striving for LEED certification for the building - meaning that it will adhere to the highest standards for preserving the environment and using renewable materials. The Boathouse is an ideal location to showcase environmentally friendly practices including:

• Environmental programs for elementary and middle school students about the surrounding ecosystem and sustainable architecture -- mentoring the future stewards of the lake
• Energy saving materials including high performance glass and high efficient heating and cooling systems
• Extensive use of recycled and regionally manufactured materials such as concrete, steel and drywall
• Finish materials, paints, adhesives, caulks ad sealants that contain low or no volatile organic compounds
• Lighting designed to prevent night sky pollution
• Recycling of construction waste materials
