KRLD — A number of great events are happening this weekend across north Texas! From live music, to craft beer, to belly dancing in Allen, here are the best!

Here is a chance for you to travel back in time and discover the life and culture of the feared Japanese samurai warriors through more than 140 artifacts from one of the best and largest collections in the world. A Samurai Celebration is happening at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth this Saturday (June 21).

This Saturday night is Dollar Night at Lone Star Park. General admission, live racing programs, soft drinks, hot dogs and popcorn all for only $1 each. Beer will be just $2 all night long. You can also groove to the smooth sounds of Prophets and Outlaws.

How about giving a sweet furry baby a forever home this Saturday? Check out the Animal Adoption event from noon to 4 at Half Price Books on Northwest Highway. The League of Animal Protectors, a nonprofit animal rescue and adoption organization, holds this event on the third Saturday of every month.

Here is something you don’t see every day. The First Annual Best of the Best Belly Dance Competition 2014 is happening this Saturday at the Allen ISD Performing Arts Center at Allen High School.

This Saturday at the Irving Convention Center, it is all things chicks. The Dallas Women’s Expo will feature Celebrity Speakers Wendy Williams and Linda Gray. There will also be free haircuts, free massages and makeovers, and more. Bring the debit card…there will be over 350 boutiques on site.

Enjoy Safari Nights this Saturday at the Dallas Zoo. This weekend you can also check out Journey tribute band Escape.

For the third year in a row, Dirk Nowitzki is having a Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game…this years is happening Saturday (June 21) at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The annual benefit is for the Heroes Foundation and the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation.

The Best Little Brewfest in Texas event is coming up this Saturday…the first day of summer mind you. Quench your thirst in Old Town Lewisville with this Craft Beer Festival that will include more than 50 craft breweries from all over.

This chick had a couple of hits back in 1997. She obviously was not from Texas…because had she been, she would have known exactly where all the cowboys had gone. See Paula Cole tonight (June 19) at the Kessler.

If you were in high school in the late 70’s and early 80’s, the name of this show makes total sense. Night of Proms includes some of the biggest names on the radio back in the day, and odds are you danced to their tunes at your prom. Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, The Pointer Sisters, Niles Rogers and Chic will do all the tunes you loved all in one night, Thursday (June 19) at the Verizon.

I’ve dug this guy ever since I heard the songs Austin and Ole Red on his 2001 debut album…and he has done nothing but churn out hits since then. I also like the fact that he married a cool Texas chick from Lindale. See Blake Shelton at Gexa Saturday night.

This southern dude graduated from a Catholic boys school, started playing guitar while a freshman at Auburn University, became a member of Kappa Sigma and graduated with a degree in History. But he is famous for singing about being a slacker. See Jimmy Buffett Saturday night at Toyota Stadium.

Friday night’s Concert in the Garden at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden will feature the music of Star Wars with some cool laser lights thrown in.

Before these guys came along in the 80’s, the pickins were slim when it came to Christian rock music. This band gave us “Soldiers Under Command” and “To Hell with the Devil”, and then they even did the 80’s ballad thing with “Honestly”. See Stryper Friday night at the Granada.

Thursday at the Choctaw Casino, see the one and only John Fogerty.

This Texas native has done it all. He is a singer, songwriter, actor, military veteran, Country Music Hall of Famer, Golden Gloves boxer, Rhodes Scholar, college football player, and Grammy-winner. He flew a helicopter in south Louisiana for oil workers after he got out of the military, and it was while sitting on top of an oil rig platform one night, he wrote “Help Me Make it Through The Night”. He also wrote “Me and Bobby McGee” while working in south Louisiana. See the one and only Kris Kristofferson Saturday night at Bass Hall.

My favorite song from this guy is the one song he says he hates the most. I find that interesting since “Ain’t Even Done with the Night” is the song that set him on his way. He was known as John Cougar then…and John Mellencamp now. Check him out Friday night and Saturday night at the Winstar Casino.
