St. Ann’s Warehouse to Present ‘Let the Right One In’ Onstage

St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn is teaming up again with John Tiffany and Steven Hoggett to present their critically acclaimed production of “Let the Right One In,” a drama that mixes a coming-of-age romance with the shocks of a vampire story, St. Ann’s announced on Monday. The theater previously worked with Mr. Tiffany, a Tony Award winner for “Once,” and Mr. Hoggett, a choreographer and movement visionary on “Once” as well as “The Last Ship” and “The Glass Menagerie,” on their popular production “Black Watch,” about a Scottish Army regiment in Iraq.

“Let the Right One In,” adapted by Jack Thorne from the novel and screenplay by the Swedish writer John Ajvide Lindqvist, was first produced by the National Theater of Scotland last year, then ran at London’s Royal Court Theater and in the West End, where the play closed in August. Ben Brantley, reviewing the London production for The New York Times, called it “the most gut-twisting presentation of the middle teens as a supernatural horror story since Brian De Palma’s movie cameras invaded the girls’ locker room in ‘Carrie.’” The cast for the St. Ann’s run will be from the United Kingdom, a spokesman for the theater confirmed, but added that it was too soon to say if all the actors from the British run would be transferring to Brooklyn.

The play, which unfolds in a snowy wood, will be performed Jan. 20 through Feb. 15 in St. Ann’s cavernous warehouse space. Mr. Tiffany is the director and Mr. Hoggett is the associate director. National Theater of Scotland is a backer of the New York run, as are the commercial producers Bill Kenwright and Marla Rubin, who have been involved in the show since its inception.
