Enterprise Fund’s purpose

Re: “Enterprise Fund good for Texas — Most recommendations by auditor should be adopted, but program is a clear success, says Jason Villalba,” Tuesday Viewpoints and “Trinity Lakes regains its mojo — Council sees proposal for numerous amenities, but feasibility is questioned,” Tuesday news story.

Jason Villalba mounts his defense of the Texas Enterprise Fund in his column. Not surprisingly, he is a Republican.

I believe how we — as citizens — feel about this is sure to be heavily influenced on our individual politics or philosophies.

The truth seems to be that there are billions of dollars sitting in a “slush fund.”

Coincidentally, there is continuing drama over the Trinity Lakes.

Is it inconceivable to take $200 million from the multibillion-dollar slush fund and dedicate it to the Trinity and make Dallas a better city?

It could be used to help bridge the North-South gap and encourage a multitude of micro businesses that would likely spring up.

I believe it would encourage growth on the southern side of town.

Or, is the fund only “good” when it donates to corporations and big businessmen who (coincidentally, of course) return the favor to compliant politicians?
