OK all you Michael Bay wannabes (OK, that includes me); this DIY video shows a couple of basic camera mounts for smaller camcorders for the automobile bound director. I needed these mounts to help me with my test film/homage/spoof "The Spy Who Lost Me". I'm sure with some additional modification, larger cameras could make use of these types of mounts.
The first is a simple base plate to create a dashboard camera-if built correctly, the camera can shoot both outside the windshield as well as at anyone inside the car with ease.
The other mount was inspired by a similar design I found on the video site Vimeo...now if I could just find it to link to that one. I digress...
The second car camera mount secures a camera to the license plate mounts.
A couple bits-o-safety I should add for that one is: For added security, run a small line from the camera to the hood latch as an added precaution against catastrophic failure of the mounting rig. Second, don't forget that polarized lenses not only make the visuals in your shout cleaner, but they are a cheep shield against debris from pimp-slapping your expensive camera's on-board lens!
