Weekend Challenge: Mirror, Mirror

Hello there, bilateral buckaroos,

Ignoring the rain we've been experiencing in NY lately, most of our winter precipitation is pretty beautiful. Even as an "adult" (who am I kidding), every snowflake is still a small wonder. Delightfully symmetrical, these 6-pointed beauties are the geometric inspiration for this weekend's Challenge. Let's talk Mirror and Kaleidoscope effects!

Simply adding a mirror effect alters the way you see reality! Check out Michael Shainblum's Mirror City Timelapse:

Anything mundane becomes miraculous when you flip it, reverse it, angle it this way and that, and put it back together again. A nice mini-challenge within the bigger project would be to try to use things that are otherwise underwhelming, making them marvelous with a bit of reflective trickery. Things can get real weird, real fast. For example, Klesha Production's L'Homme Grotesque:

Most computers come with software that is capable of this magic, but if you are for some reason lacking, get analog with some real-world mirrors and kaleidoscopes.

+ Make a video using a mirror or kaleidoscope effect.
+ Keep it under 3 minutes.
+ If you add music, make sure you use a song you or a buddy created, or something from the Vimeo Music Store! If you do choose to use a Music Store song, please throw a link in the description.
+ Add this at the end of your video's description: "Created for the Weekend Challenge: vimeo.com/groups/weekendchallenge"
+ Upload and post your video to the Weekend Challenge Group by ***Tuesday, December 24th, 2013*** at 11:59 PM (EST).

Only videos made specifically for this Challenge will be considered.

+ The winner will receive a free Vimeo Plus account for one year! If you're already a Plus member, you'll get another year.
+ The runner-up will receive an extra 3GB of upload space!

All videos must be approved by the Vimeo Staff before appearing in the Group, so don't worry if your video doesn't show up at first; we'll get to it!

Assuming I have a camera tomorrow, I'm in...I left it on the tractor tonight. It is in it's ziploc, in the camera pouch, carabinered to the handhold, under a canopy, no sub-freezing temps expected, out in the middle of nowhere (15 mi. from my current position).....What would you do ?

I'm currently cozy enough to let anything slide if it meant I didn't have to get up from my place beside the fire ;)

I took the trip. I would have woken in the middle of the night and worried till I went back out.
I was back by 9:30. :-)

Does the entire video have to be in this effect or can it go in and out of it?

Citing the example videos, I'd say work with the whole video in this style (but like always, if you think you've got a good idea, go for it!).

The category is Editing/Shooting. I have the raw footage and some ideas in mind, one of which includes some CG - is CG allowed, or should the piece be generated entirely from camera source (shooting)?

Luckily this video wasn't created for this challenge, awesome mirror work from Beeple: vimeo.com/82090537

Cheers

My first participation here, so I have another question. Is the 3 minutes rule strict? My backing track is 3:46...

Don't forget this lovely example (& previous Staff Pick) of a (city) kaleidolapse vimeo.com/74680333

Great idea for a challenge, it's a fun effect to work with, and I look forward to watching the submissions! (Alas, my effort from a few months ago won't qualify, but if you like snowflakes/frozen things, you might enjoy this :) vimeo.com/76886294 )

For my video the same, but in the information here above is written:
All videos must be approved by the Vimeo Staff before appearing in the Group, so don't worry if your video doesn't show up at first; we'll get to it!
So I think we have to wait till tomorrow. ( I hope..)
