COLLEGE STATION — The North Texas men shot their best round of the tournament with a third-round 2-over-par 290 on the final day of the Aggie Invitational on Sunday.

The 33rd-ranked Mean Green began the day in a tie for 11th with No. 45 Texas Tech, but they moved past the Red Raiders to finish alone in 11th.

The field featured 12 teams ranked in the top 50, and No. 2 Alabama captured the team title with an 18-stroke victory.

Carlos Ortiz shot the only under-par score of the tournament for North Texas in the third round. Ortiz was 2 under par as he played mistake-free golf with two birdies and 16 pars to finish tied for 40th. Curtis Donahoe had the best finish of the tournament for the Mean Green despite a 3-over-par 75 in the final round. Donahoe finished in a tie for 36th.

UNT’s Rodolfo Cazaubon and Gonzalo Rubio finished tied for 45th, as Cazaubon posted a 73 and Rubio shot a 72.

North Texas has one final tuneup before the Sun Belt Conference tournament, as they play in the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on Saturday and Sunday in Austin.
