Golf: Cazaubon’s win helps UNT take title

RUSTON, La. — Rodolfo Cazaubon gave another dominating performance Tuesday and No. 32 North Texas won the Argent Financial Classic by four strokes over No. 15 LSU.

Cazaubon, who trailed by four strokes entering the round, shot a 5-under 67 to capture his third title of the season. UNT won for the first time this year.

The Mean Green started the final round tied with LSU, but UNT took the lead early and never looked back. The Mean Green shot the lowest round of the day at 3-under 285.

It was the first win over a top-15 team this season for UNT, and it comes on the heels of tying three top-15 teams at the John Hayt Classic and knocking off No. 22 Tennessee.

Cazaubon, ranked 36th, had six birdies and one bogey Tuesday. He finished at 9-under 207. Cazaubon has finished first or second in four of his last five tournaments.

UNT’s Jason Roets finished third at 3 under. Roets shot 2 under in the third round with five birdies. Carlos Ortiz shot a 71 to move into a tie for fifth.

UNT’s Curtis Donahoe, playing as an individual, notched his first top-10 finish of the year with a 4-over 220 to finish in a tie for 10th.

UNT returns to action Friday at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga.
