SAN ANTONIO — A trio of North Texas golfers put up red figures Tuesday in the final round of the Lone Star Invitational to power the Mean Green to a fifth-place finish. Cory Churchman, Juan Munoz and Gonzalo Rubio were under par as North Texas had the third-best score of the day at 5 under par.
Churchman shot a 3-under 69, Munoz was 2 under and Rubio 1 under.
Freshman Nick Rodriguez led UNT for the tournament after a final round of 1-over 73. Rodriguez finished at 1-under 215 and a tie for 14th place.
Churchman again roared up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 30th. He had four birdies and one bogey for a 69. Last week, he posted a final round of 4-under 68 at the Schenkel Invitational.
Munoz shot a 70 with four birdies to finish in a tie for 26th with Rubio (71) at 2-over 218. Jason Roets shot a 74 with an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole; he finished in a tie for 43rd.
No. 20 New Mexico won the title at 16 under. UNT shot a 2-over 866.
The Mean Green will play April 5 and 6 at the Aggie Invitational.
