Frack or Fiction?
FRACK OR FICTION?
Across the United States, fracking has contaminated drinking water sources, made nearby residents sick, turned pristine landscapes into industrial zones, and released air pollution that harms our health and contributes to... global warming. The oil and gas industry has spent untold millions of dollars on advertising and public relations efforts to convince the public that fracking is necessary and safe. Those public relations campaigns have included distortions of the truth or outright falsehoods. This week, we’ll introduce you to 5 of the most common myths spread by the oil and gas industry and their allies.
Warning: This may be infuriating!

FRACK FICTION #1
How can industry allies like Senator Inhofe claim that fracking has never contaminated water? They do it by narrowly defining “fracking” as just the moment where shale rock is cracked open with fracking fluid. But when you look at the whole picture of fracking operations – including spills of fracking fluid, waste pits leaching into groundwater, well blowouts, and methane migrating into people’s drinking water wells – the record of water contamination is well documented by state records. #fracking #environment #frackingfiction

Here are some great pics from this weekends rally at the Steelers game calling out the Susan G Komen Foundation from taking money from the dirty crackers! Congrats to Breast Cancer Action and others for pulling off this great action!
Many thanks to everyone who came out to join our rally against Susan G. Komen's pinkwashing partnership with Baker Hughes, Inc.! It was a pleasure to work with New Voices Pittsburgh: Women of Color for Reproductive Justice and Shalefield St...ories-Friends of the Harmed - see some initial pictures below.

We delivered over 160,000 petition signatures demanding that Komen break ties with the toxic fracking industry on Friday. Big thanks to Oil Change International, Food & Water Watch , EcoWatch, CREDO Mobile and to everyone who signed. Komen is feeling the pressure about their pinkwashing partnerships!

Check out the Washington Post page A5! A beautiful ad by many of our member groups! Take action now: http://www.cutmethane.org/
Today we ran an ad in the Washington Post calling on President Obama to #ActOnClimate and regulate methane emissions from fracking.

Methane is 86x worse than CO2 for climate. This can't wait.

But everyone else's yard? OK!

“I am a Newt Gingrich, “Drill, Baby, Drill” kind of person,” said Terry, a longtime conservative activist who seemed to echo the feelings of some others in the [Republican] crowd. ”I’m very pro-drilling. Unfortunately, and it sounds very self-serving, I don’t want it in my back yard.”
Its inspiring to see the Pacific Island Warriors fighting back! Maybe we need to start fighting back like this in the gas patches?
Love and respect to the Pacific Island Warriors.

Climate Pollution from oil and gas drilling is a big problem that needs to be dealt with now. Clean energy is the answer, but until then, we can protect public health from #fracking pollution. Tell the EPA it's time to #ActOnClimate

Have you called the White House Yet? Give them a ring at 888-328-2271 and tell them to stop pollution from fracking!
It’s time to control methane emissions and hazardous air pollution from fracking.

Oil and gas drilling isn’t clean, and harms the climate and public health.

Tell the President to put strong rules in place to limit methane from oil and gas drilling!

The oil and gas industry dumps 9 million tons of methane and toxic pollutants into the air we breathe -- it's time to put our children's health first and #CutMethane.
