AUSTIN—Commissioner Barry T. Smitherman will give the keynote address at two important energy conferences held in Dallas and Houston next week and early September.

On Wednesday, Commissioner Smitherman will give the keynote address at the Gulf Coast Power Association (GCPA) “Special Briefing” on Energy Markets & Transmission Competition in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) in Dallas.

“It was an honor for me to serve on the SPP Regional State Committee from 2008 to 2011, and I have watched with interest the dramatic increase in transmission infrastructure, wind generation, and continued enhancements in the SPP wholesale market design,” said Commissioner Smitherman.

The SPP market covers parts of eight states, including the Texas Panhandle and part of East Texas.  More information is available on the GCPA website at www.gulfcoastpower.org.

On Sept. 4, Commissioner Smitherman will be the luncheon speaker at the 13th Annual Gas and Power Institute Conference in Houston.  His topic will be “Texas Oil and Gas Development, Power Generation, and Related Regulatory and Environmental Issues.”

"This two-day conference, presented by The University of Texas School of Law, The Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Law Section of The State Bar of Texas, and the Energy Bar Association, brings together key practitioners and market participants in the oil, gas, power, pipeline, transmission, environmental and electricity market segments,” Commissioner Smitherman said.
