A Denton woman in her 40s has died from the flu, becoming the eighth flu-related death in Denton County.

Bing Burton, director of the Denton County Health Department, confirmed the death early Monday morning.

Officials had speculated as recently as Friday that the flu season was winding down.

The Denton woman had underlying medical conditions and had not been vaccinated, officials said. Burton again emphasized the need for residents to be vaccinated.

The deaths of a 50-year-old Aubrey woman, a Sanger woman in her 40s, a Lewisville man in his 40s, a 30-year-old Denton woman, an 80-year-old Highland Village woman, a man in his 70s from Carrollton and a 13-year-old girl from Carrollton have also been attributed to the flu, county officials said.
