Marcin Gortat, who helped the Washington Wizards make a strong showing in the playoffs last season, plunked down nearly $1.6 million late last month for a newly built home on North Quebec Street in North Arlington.

The Wizards center, a Polish native who came to the Wizards from the Phoenix Suns in 2013, bought the five-bedroom, 4,000-square-foot home in the Farrington Ridge community from 3900 Lorcom LLC, according to county land records.

The 6-foot-11 Gortat became an instant fan favorite last season and was described as "the most interesting man in the NBA" in this USA Today post. He signed a five-year, $60 million contract with the Wizards in the offseason. The Wizards tip off the new season Wednesday night against Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat.

Rest assured, there's plenty of headroom in the home, according to Century 21 Redwood Realty broker Nick Pasquini. Pasquini, who had the listing, said the home's main floor has a 10-foot ceiling height and its upper floors are around 9 feet.

Bedrock Development completed construction on the home in August, Pasquini said, and there was just enough time to get a certificate of occupancy so Gortat could move by the time the season started.

Also in Wizards real estate news, the Great Falls home once belonging to former Washington All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas is under contract, according to The Washington Post. It was most recently listed for $2.8 million.
