But the kids are also learning how to recognize potential predators. “More than anything I think he’s just learning discipline and respect for adults,” said Jessica Miller. Franchise owner Drew McWay said it’s that focus on character-building that drew him to open the Lakewood franchise in April.

Jo Moncrief is one of only 19 artists living in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to make the cut in last weekend’s Cottonwood Art Festival, which Moncrief believes is the most prestigious in the area. Most of the artists selected for the festival are from out of state, and no preferential treatment is given to local artists in the selection process, said Serri Ayers, festival director.
Plano began the Great Update Rebate program after the City Council set aside about $600,000 in funds for the initiative. The program gives homeowners up to $5,000 to repair or renovate their homes if they meet qualifications. Todd Womble, who grew up along Farmers Branch Creek, is a stakeholder in a three-year disagreement between Farmers Branch and Addison concerning water flow through the creek. This fall, a group of Farmers Branch residents and the city filed a complaint against Addison with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The crux of the argument: an amendment to a Texas Water Use Permit. It's a complex battle.
Badgers BBQ, a new restaurant in Lewisville, has a mission. Owners Emilee and Erich Klein serve family-style barbecue, but they also want to use their restaurant to honor “the badge”: law enforcement, firefighters and soldiers in the community. Hence the name Badgers. The restaurant had its grand opening last Saturday. Emilee runs the restaurant with Erich’s help. He is a full-time federal law enforcement officer.
Students at Eastfield College now have a new opportunity to pursue higher education. Columbia College, a liberal arts college based out of Columbia, Mo., will open a location at Eastfield in January and offer bachelors degrees onsite. The partnership with Eastfield will offer junior- and senior-level courses for students who have received associate degrees from Eastfield or other institutions. We have the details.
