For every person putting down the gastrointensity of the standard American diet, there’ll a Brit or two biting into bodaciously beefy burgers this week at Ed’s Easy Diner in the UK, which has a 1950s American diner theme.
Special fan diners in the Ed’s chain are broiling with delight over the NFL games at Wembley Stadium this year — including Cowboys vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars on Nov. 9.
For any game, you can order the Bears Pizza Burger Platter for Two. That’s a double bacon and cheeseburger patty lost between two margherita pizzas, with a side of onion rings, coleslaw, chunky fries and BBQ sauce for dipping because … America. That’s why.
When the Raiders played the Dolphins, there was a California Classic, smeared with guacamole, salsa, mushrooms and onion rings. We’re still scratching our head on why onion rings are attributed to California, and why the semi-healthy sounding Dolphins South Beach Burger is dripping with jerk sauce.
Last week’s Falcons Burger was featured with tomatoes and toasted goat cheese, while Ed’s culinary depiction of Detroit was a bit more spot on. The Lions Mo-Town Burger is rubbed with BBQ spices and served with griddled onions, mushrooms and ketchup.
For the upcoming game, America’s team gets a BBQ rubdown, served with BBQ sauce and slaw. The Jaguars Rarebit Burger is a bit more dressed up with Ed’s diner sauce, lettuce, tomato, dill and onion, sandwiched between cheese on top and bottom.
But who are we to intercept such enthusiastic interpretations of American eating? Bugger off.
