PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A runaway dump truck accident left one person injured and shut down part of the busy Parkway North in Ohio Township for a time this afternoon.

The crash happened after 2 p.m. at Camp Horne Road.

Authorities had to close down the southbound side of the road due to the rollover crash. However, it was reopened just before 4 p.m.

The truck was reportedly at a construction site above the highway when it rolled down the hillside and crashed near the road. It traveled down a significant distance.

The dump truck driver was injured in the crash, emergency dispatchers say.

“At some point it lost control; we’re not sure what caused that,” said Chief Norbert Micklos, of the Ohio Township Police Department. “It came through the construction site, down onto the interstate, turned over and crashed. The individual was taken from the construction vehicle to the hospital in serious condition.”

State police were also called to the scene to investigate.

Officials are asking anyone driving through the area to slow down and use caution this evening.
