A 21-year-old man with bloody wrists came into an area business in the 3200 block of Elm Street late Wednesday, police said.

According to Denton police reports, an employee of the business reported a customer came in his store with cuts to both wrists that were still bleeding. The employee told police he thought the man had used a glass bottle to cut himself.

Officers said they believed he was intoxicated and “was an obvious danger to himself.”

He was taken to an area hospital for treatment. He was later released and charged with public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance, reports show.

Other reports

1100 block of Bernard Street Denton fire officials responded to an apartment fire at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Kenneth Hedges, spokesman for Denton Fire Department, said crews reported light smoke coming from a doorway in an apartment complex upon arrival.

He said the occupant of the apartment reported a cooking fire on the stove top. The occupant attempted to retrieve a fire extinguisher, but the fire sprinkler activated and extinguished the fire before he could, Hedges said.

Three occupants were displaced, he said, but no injuries were reported.

An estimated $2,500 worth of damages was reported and fire personnel cleared the scene before 8 p.m. Wednesday.
