A 56-year-old Denton man was injured Wednesday after he walked into the side of the A-train, officials said.
Sandi Brackeen, spokeswoman for the Denton County Sheriff’s Office, said deputies were dispatched at 8:35 p.m. to Edwards and Mayhill roads after a pedestrian was reportedly struck by a train.
Upon arrival, deputies learned the man had walked into the side of the train. When the man realized what was happening, Brackeen said, he turned away and the train hit his backpack. He received a minor cut over his eye. The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital for assessment, she said. The train service was not interrupted, officials said.
“We want to take this time to remind our community members that trespassing on the tracks is not only against the law but very dangerous and we want our community members to stay safe,” said Kristina Brevard, DCTA’s vice president of strategic planning and development.
The last incident involving a DCTA train was in August when the rail collided with a motorist at a crossing south of the Highland Village/Lewisville Lake Station.
