A 22-year-old man was arrested early Saturday on several driving-related charges, according to a police report.

A police officer was alerted to a warrant attached to the suspect’s vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at the 2200 block of South Interstate 35E.

The Denton Police Department warrant was issued because the driver was cited for an expired inspection sticker, and he failed either to pay the fine or show proof of renewing his inspection.

When the officer approached the vehicle, the suspect said he wasn’t carrying his driver’s license or identification, the reporting officer wrote.

The driver was placed under arrest for driver’s license violation, failure to identify as a fugitive from justice and intent to give false information.

5000 block of Teasley Lane — Officers responded to a business Saturday evening after a store manager reported a shoplifter.

According to reports, one suspect entered the business, placed a number of items in a shopping cart and made his way to the exit, where a car waited in the parking lot with two other people inside.

The manager rushed out of the store, demanding to see the suspect’s receipt, police said. But the suspect jumped into the car, and the vehicle fled the scene.

The manager provided a description of all of the suspects as well as the vehicle’s license plate, and the police plan to issue Class B theft warrants for all three suspects.

6400 block of Interstate 35E — Denton police were dispatched Saturday afternoon to an assault in progress.

A witness reported a female victim who appeared to have been just assaulted exited a vehicle pulled over on the side of the road, according to a police report.

The witness requested paramedics, advising the female victim was “swollen and bleeding.”

Police said a suspect was arrested for aggravated assault, unauthorized use of a vehicle and evading arrest, but details of the arrest were not available.
