Blotter: Police seek elusive shoplifting suspects

Denton police haven’t been able to locate two individuals who stole items from a discount store Wednesday night.

According to reports, a man and woman went inside a business in the 1600 block of East McKinney Street and attempted to conceal several items in their clothing before they were confronted by a store employee.

The employee was able to recover the property, but the suspects fled before police arrived at 7:48 p.m.

Police said it’s not known if they had any additional merchandise hidden in their clothes that the employee didn’t obtain before they left the store.

No arrests have been made and the suspects remain on the loose, according to reports.

400 block of South Carroll Boulevard — A 22-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a 23-year-old woman, according to Denton police records.

Police said they were dispatched to a disturbance call at 11:41 p.m. Wednesday after a verbal altercation became physical. The woman told police she received a laceration of her left cheek.

According to reports, the suspect was charged with assault and violation of a protective order.

1600 block of Scripture Street Upon arrival to an area business on a burglary alarm call early Wednesday, police discovered a broken window.

Police said they searched the business but found no one inside.

No suspects have been identified and the store’s owner was contacted about the alarm call, according to reports.

From 7 a.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday:

Denton County sheriff’s dispatchers handled 855 service and officer-initiated calls for the agencies they serve. Forty people were booked into Denton County Jail.

Denton police handled 354 service and officer-initiated calls and posted 31 reports online.

Denton firefighters responded to 17 medical calls, one vehicle fire, one gas leak, one fire, assisted one agency and responded to one vehicle accident.
