Blotter: Lake Cities agencies warn of area thefts

In the past week, vehicle burglaries have been popping up throughout the Lake Cities area, law enforcement officials said.

Corinth had three reported vehicle break-ins in the Amity Village neighborhood Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, police Lt. Jimmie Gregg said.

Gregg said the vehicles did not appear to be locked. He cautioned residents to remove valuables from their cars and lock up.

“You might not think you will be a victim of property theft, but all it takes is that one time,” he said. “If you can’t bring high-dollar items with you, make sure they are well hidden and then lock up your vehicle.”

Over the Labor Day weekend, two vehicles were broken into at the Lakeview Estates neighborhood, Hickory Creek police Lt. Carey Dunn said. One was rummaged through and the other was missing an iPad and a handgun, he said.

The two agencies are working with Lake Dallas police in their investigations in case any crimes might be linked in Lake Dallas.

Police recommended that people keep records of serial numbers for valuable items.

“We can use those to track down the missing items at pawn shops, and eventually that may lead to an arrest of the suspect,” Gregg said.

They also asked people to report suspicious activity promptly.

“We just need residents to be neighborly and on the lookout,” Gregg said.
