Ecolab Inc. has pledged $2 million to The Nature Conservancy for land and water conservation in Minnesota, water protection in Shanghai and reforesting in Monterrey, Mexico.

The St. Paul-based manufacturer of water, hygiene and energy technology made the three-year commitment through the Ecolab Foundation.

The gift is the largest corporate contribution to The Nature Conservancy for its freshwater work in Minnesota, state director Peggy Ladner said in a news release.

"In many areas, water shortages already threaten quality of life, the health of communities and the ability to conduct business," Ecolab CEO Doug Baker said in a statement. "The Nature Conservancy is doing valuable work in many of these regions and we are committed to supporting these efforts."
