More than half of the teams in the NBA will stream their games online this season, but most Minnesota Timberwolves fans won't be able to partake.
That's because Fox Sports Net and the Twin Cities' largest cable provider, Comcast, have not reached an agreement allowing Comcast subscribers to stream Wolves games online as the season tips off Wednesday night.
Fox Sports Net is planning a major expansion of its streaming services this season. After testing the service in six markets last season, Fox Sports Net will stream the games of 17 teams, according to Multichannel News, a news website that covers cable providers.
Certain cable subscribers can log onto Fox Sports Go to watch their team play. While Fox Sports has reached deals with other cable providers, it has not reached a deal with Comcast.
"This agreement at this time does not include streaming," Comcast spokeswoman Mary Beth Schubert said after the provider announced it would still televise 75 Wolves games this season.
Fox Sports North spokeswoman Marlene Wright said parent network Fox Sports Net is still talking with cable providers that haven't signed on.
"We are in discussions with all other video providers, and we expect other distributors, including Charter, to make FOX Sports GO available to their customers in the second half of the season," she wrote in an e-mail.
Subscribers to Midwest cable companies WOW! and Mediacom will be able to stream Wolves games, Wright said.
The Timberwolves start the season in Memphis Wednesday night at 7.
