Police say pickup driver died in crash after fleeing traffic stop by SMU police

One man was killed when he crashed Sunday night while fleeing a traffic stop by Southern Methodist University police.

Dallas police say the man was driving a 2001 Chevy pickup recklessly northbound on Bishop Boulevard about 10 p.m. when he was spotted by SMU police.

Police pursued the pickup eastbound on University Boulevard to southbound Greenville Avenue, according to Dallas police.

The SMU police officer was about to end the chase when the pickup ignored a stop light at Mockingbird Lane and hit a 2004 Ford pickup that was turning left.

The suspect died in the collision, according to Dallas police. His name was not released.
