A 26-year-old Flower Mound man was killed in a two-vehicle collision late Saturday on Sam Rayburn Tollway in The Colony.

Kyle Tilley died after a Lexus ISF struck his 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee from behind on the toll road just south of the Josey Lane overpass, according to Sgt. Lonny Haschel, spokesman for the Texas Highway Patrol.

He said troopers were called to the scene at 11:40 p.m. Saturday and found one person dead and one with serious injuries from the crash.

Tilley died at the scene with severe head trauma, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website.

Tilley’s passenger, Nicholas Bass, 25, of Coppell, was transported to Medical Center of Plano with serious injuries via CareFlite.

Haschel said 19-year-old Wahid Malik of Carrollton, the driver of the Lexus, was driving south at a high rate of speed when he made an unsafe lane change and struck the rear of the Jeep.

“The Jeep lost control and traveled off the right side of the roadway where it overturned and rolled,” according to a statement issued Sunday by authorities.

Haschel said the Jeep came to rest upright in the right grassy median and the Lexus traveled off the toll road to the right before catching fire in a grassy median.

The driver and passenger of the Lexus were not seriously injured, authorities said.

Haschel said Sunday that the crash was under investigation and could not answer whether any charges would be filed.
