Transfer news: Wolverhampton passes on Juan Agudelo

Juan Agudelo's search for a club continues.

Wolverhampton manager Kenny Jackett said the Championship side will not sign the U.S. national team striker after an extended trial, citing a lack of match fitness. Agudelo had been training with Wolves while continuing efforts to earn a British work permit.

"Juan is not a player that we are going to pursue," Jackett said on Wolves' official website. "He has been here on trial and we thank him for coming here and training and hope he enjoyed his time with us. But both parties will now move on.

"We felt that match fitness was the key for Juan. To get him up to Championship standard he would need to play games, and it is hard to go from nothing straight into the Championship. That can be tough, and while the odd player does it, most people don't — you need a run of games and need to build up. So it was nothing to do with his ability levels, just that he hasn't played."

Agudelo has been without a club since May, when his appeal for a work permit was denied and Stoke City released the 21-year-old. Formerly of the New York Red Bulls, Chivas USA and New England Revolution, Agudelo spent last spring on loan to Dutch side Utrecht.

The forward has 18 caps with the USA, but just two since January 2013.
